A day without instagramming, hash tagging and liking.

Okay, so it's not a FULL day but it is the majority of the day. I woke up on Sunday morning to a partied out flat and my phone in the kitchen. In a bowl in the kitchen. In a bowl full of water in the kitchen. It's safe to say my phone is no more.

I knew I had an addiction to my social media filled phone. I am a big fan of tweeting, facebooking, instagramming, tumblring, blogging. Everything. I am part of that generation which has made social media peak in society. But blogging on the move has been taken away from me. With one day I could feel my hands itch as I wanted to tweet about my walk to work with a hangover, I wanted to message my friend during my break, I wanted to see what facebook statuses were being uploaded. The worst part was when I put my hands in empty coat pockets. The sheer sadness.
But this got me thinking, why are we so obsessed with social media and phones? I never had such a strong attachment to my Nokia 3310, the super phone!
Apparently if we don't tweet it or instagram it, it didn't happen. We are compelled to making sure that everyone knows what we are doing and who we are out with. Why?

"I fear the day technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots." Albert Einstein.

And this, sadly, is true. So I am going back to basics for a couple of days. I want to try and prove that we are not a world of idiots. I am hoping that this peak will slope down to the basics that I am experiencing. right now. As much as I love it, I hate myself for being so addicted. I think I will be better off for this break. Who needs to know if I had a curry for dinner and a fruit salad? Not 200 people on instagram.

Maybe it is time to realise that we sometimes will be better off as our parents and grandparents were. Socialising through speaking, not tweeting, a phone call at the least. We cannot survive alone. We need others around us. Not followers.I vote to bring back a close knit community. I am going to try very hard to cut down on my addiction.

Who will join me in this technology revolution?!
