Skin care. It’s the buzzword for all beauty gurus and apparently it’s like the equivalent of coconut oil. It can do anything. A good skin care routine can change your life. Apparently. But if you’re like me and can’t be bothered with the oils, face masks, serums, toner and moisturiser made from gold-and that’s before your daily moisturiser and cup of coffee-I have the lazy skin care routine that keeps dry skin away.
Makeup and skin care for dry skin isn’t as easy to find compared to those tailored to oily, so I did some investigating for my poor dehydrated face. I do not have a high maintenance lifestyle, I take ages getting ready and am always late so anything that can add time to my morning routine, is avoided. Apart from makeup. The winged eyeliner is a must. But having dry skin means that I should take some time and some products to help it along. Otherwise my expensive foundation will just crack and crumble off my face and that isn’t a look I enjoy. I have been reaching for Nivea’s daily essential moisturiser for the last 6 months and for under £5, I can’t complain. It is the best I’ve had for such a price. Containing oil extracts, it works best for my cheeks and I use the oil free one for my forehead. Depending on your skin type, you can choose the moisturiser for yourself.
Remember the mega cold months when we got the snow storm and went into shut down? Well that messed up my skin along with lack of water and increased cider intake. My skin needed an extra boost of glow.
I’m sure you’ve all heard of the pixi glow tonic, well I’ve found a cheaper one. By Superdrug. The Natural Radiant Glycolic Toner it contains the same ingredients and gives a dash of that radiance we are looking for. I was told because it sort of exfoliates the skin, to use it once a day or every other day to stop drying out. That has been working well for me and I follow that with my nivea. And that’s it. Then my primer and foundation goes on.
Through the day, some matte foundations tend to make my skin feel dry and that’s when B. hydration spritz comes in handy. If I pop home through my day, I spray the product on my face on top of my makeup and I feel revived. I was worried it would melt my makeup but it just makes it look dewy and fresh. Not budged. It’s like I’ve just splashed water on my face and by the time I get down my 5 flights of stairs, the water spritz had dried into my skin but a great hydration boost throughout the day. But that’s not a vital product, but a handy one to have if you have particularly dry skin like myself.
For dry skin, taking your makeup off at night is VITAL! Unfortunately, I refused to do that for the first good few months of me and my boyfriend’s relationship. So that might have something to do with my scale like skin… but now, things have changed, the comfortable phase has set in and my night routine is back. Taking off makeup, exfoliating with L'Oreal clay face wash and Superdrugs B range night serum goes on with nivea and sometimes the eye cream. The nip and fab eye cream isn’t an everyday thing but I do find my under eye area brightens and becomes less puffy when used. It’s not too pricey and Superdrug often have offers on their products and students get 10% off with Unidays (#studentlife). I use the serum and my nivea cream since I don’t have a night cream that feels intensive as I’d like. Using both of these-I think, have the same effect.
And that’s all I have to say about skincare. There is no magic gold dust or freshly squeezed avocado to rub into your skin to turn you into Blake Lively. A few simple products all found in Superdrug to help give your dry skin a boost and some moisture. Because let’s be honest, who has time to drink so much water nowadays?
But don’t take my word for it. I’m no dermatologist. Just a 20 something with dry skin and student budget.
